Drills for Youth Practice
Sample 60 or 75 Minute Practice
1. Warm-Up & Stretching (10 minutes)
Goal: Get players moving, warmed up, and ready to go
A. Run a lap around the field & complete stretches
B. Run lines
Run through practice plan with team
2. Stick Work Basics (15 minutes): Break out into 2 small groups
A. Cradling (5–7 min)
· Show how to hold the stick properly
· Practice stationary cradling
· Walk and cradle
B. Ground Ball Drill (7–8 min)
Teach “Step, Scoop, Cradle”
· Players scoop a slow-rolled ball
· Relay races or mini competitions
C. Ground Ball with Shooting Drill
· Players line up in 2 lines on either side of the goal
· Coach rolls a ground ball, first 2 line race to get the ground ball
· Players turn back towards net to take a shot, player that did not get the ball marks up on defense
3. Passing & Catching (15 minutes): Break out into 2 small groups
A. Partner Passing (7–8 min)
· Pairs ~5 yards apart
· Focus on push passes and soft catches
· Practice switching hands
· Create 2 line with girls facing each other, working passing, after 10 passes have Line 1 shift to the right. (Allows the girls to practice passing with different team members)
B. Triangle or Square Passing Drill (7–8 min)
Groups of 3–4
· Pass and move in a triangle or square
· Keep the ball moving
4. Fun Game or Relay (10 minutes)

5. Wrap-Up & Grab water
Circle up and review what was learned
Quick name game
